Nook = Office

J worked on installing and finishing the trim last week.  He helped move the file cabinets back into the nook and then took Zeb for a long hike.  I was determined to get everything put together and cleaned up, all by myself, before he came back.  We have been discussing how to best use the "nook" space since we moved in.  I was on team Office and he was on team Breakfast room.  My argument was, in a small house we don't need two separate eating areas within 20 ft. of each other.  What we really need is a designated office space.  And I (usually) get my way ;)

Here are all the pieces of the puzzle: two metal file cabinets with a top drawer, a VIKA LERBERG trestle leg and two LINNEMON table tops from IKEA.

I finally finished the paper pile I've been sorting out for 1.5 years.  Paper purge 2013 is history!!

Visualizing and checking the fit- 102 year old houses with "handyman" additions are NOT close to being square.

I had to peel off the veneer on the short side seam and sand off about 1/4 of an inch.  Nice tight seam now.  Don't you love the "window treatments" ;)

 Used a sticky rug pad for insulation/grip under the desk top.

All done with time to spare.   Love this view! There is a lilac out the far right window :)

I think it's even better than I've been imagining it (for the past 3 years)!! I have a crush on my office nook :)  Now I need to get a wireless keyboard/mouse and get rid of those wires...

TO DO LIST:
- install ceiling light
- touch-up paint
- patch wall
- replace switch plates
- order blinds
- install blinds
- hang calendar
- accessorize (plants, photos, office supply organization)!

2013 Goal #1- Accomplished!

Everything that needed to be hung on the walls upstairs is up!!

Bathroom:

 95% done in here...

Close-up they remind me of the pattern blocks from Tom & Molly's house...love those!!

Dining Room:

Added and rearranged a few things.  Fixed the broken glass in the black and red print from Grandmother.  Printed a few of J's crazy hiking photos and moved the Jermaine Rodger's/Deftones bunnies.

Maybe next time I'll use a real camera instead of my Iphone? ;)

Great Lakes print and my Menominee/Lake Michigan lighthouse photo are a good match!

Living Room:

After a quick project to fix a decision that has been bugging me for years...

 I can love this print of Howard Olson's again!  Reminds me so much of WI fall/winter skies.

I also really like it with my new lamp and shade!  Still sure the blue couch is still moving downstairs though...

 I think the watercolors are my current favorite art in the whole house.  Love opening the door to this view!

Kitchen Rug?

Good price, perfect size...

I might be taking a rest from finding the perfect rug.  

The two below live in Turkey. They are not too expensive (under $100), but Turkey?  To far.  I need instant gratification.  Although, the colors are nice compared to plain black and cream.  And I love black and cream any other time...

Obviously, I like the one with the most black the best ;)

Finally...the counters are here!! -Glacier White- Corian

I got the call last week that the counter material had arrived at Rocky Mtn Stone and they would be ready for installation Monday.  Woo Hoo!! I have been thinking about this day for a year...literally.  

Here's what the kitchen looked like before:

Yes, I am the person that is taking photos while the dudes are working.  I managed to get one where they are not in the photo (privacy, right...).

 Check out the awesome landscaping in our front yard.  Maybe next year ;)

The installers only had one little problem when putting the counter in its final resting place.  Because the templating is so exact and we live in a 100yr. old home, we had to temporarily remove the outlet on the far wall.  They didn't have even a 1/4 inch of wiggle room.  Once the electricity was cut and the outlet removed, it was no problem at all.  Can I tell you how great it was to have a professional doing the work?  AMAZING!! I felt a little guilty for not helping (even though I wouldn't have had anything to offer).

In a few minutes the kitchen was already looking like this:

The plumber comes Thursday morning.  Next on the list, back splash and wrapping up the final details.  

I can't believe it!  

IKEA Kitchen Install- Phase 3- In progress

Quick update as we're still working on it:

Jon's in the process of installing all the pulls.

He has all the drawers finished and is still working on the doors.

I was so excited that I got my finger in the photo ;)

And, the microwave is finally up!  

Can't believe it.  

For some reason it makes the kitchen feel very finished (and fancy).  It's one of the only items we haven't had temporarily installed and been using during the remodel.  

The final appliance that still needs to be installed is the dishwasher.  Can't wait!  The counters are scheduled to be installed Monday afternoon, then the final plumbing can be completed.  Then the final electric.  And finally, back splash.  Hoping to be done by Christmas!

The cabinets are coming!!

I finally pulled the trigger and ordered the cabinets.  They will be here Sept. 6th!!  Made it just under the wire for the IKEA annual kitchen sale and saved over $1000!  I also got the sink and faucet.  So excited :)  The cabinets are the same as the above photo but in the 39" length.  Our counter will be white (have to install the cabinets before I can order it though...too bad, there is a great sale at HD right now).  Mom, remember last year when you asked what I was most excited about for the kitchen and I said "having counters...".  We just might have the kitchen project done by Thanksgiving (or at least New Years).

On the wall with the window over the sink, we'll have double cabinets with glass doors on either side of the window.  Also, white subway tile back splash.
